Solution:  We designed and developed a modern, cost effective, database-driven technical manual platform and dissemination system tailored to the life-cycle support of military systems, the Gradient eLearning Advanced Readiness System (GeARS). GeARS is a multi-tier web-based interactive technical manual platform that uses best practices in instructional design and human factors. GeARS uses graphics, animations, 3D models, simulations, audio, and video to teach personnel how to maintain and operate complex equipment.

Solution: We used the Gradient eLearning Advanced Readiness System (GeARS) to generate a System to Sailor Audio Visual (S2AVI) Tool for the ASPJ Rack. Our technical writers and visual applications engineers developed simulations of the maintenance procedures for the rack incorporating video, audio, and 3D animations. All content was entered into a database allowing for incremental real-time content updates, ensuring life-cycle support. The maintenance procedures, illustrated parts breakdown, and technical drawings may be easily accessed using our graphical locator navigation system, or traditional hierarchical explorer menu.

Solution:  The PODS IETM was developed for both the EA-6B and EA-18G aircraft communities using GeARS (Gradient eLearning Advanced Readiness System). Maintenance procedures, illustrated parts breakdowns, wiring diagrams, testing procedures, and theory of operation assets were created using 3D animation, video, technical drawings, and high resolution photography. The S1000D technical manual standard was used for all data module organization and xml tagging. Ninety percent of the content was similar for both the EA-6B and EA-18G configurations of the POD and therefore repurposed giving the Navy a high return on investment. A TPDR (tech pub deficiency report) system was incorporated into the IETM and content administration tool following MIL standards and Navy business rules.

(Tech Pub Deficiency Report) Process

Solution:  The Gradient eLearning Advanced Readiness System (GeARS) contains a built in deficiency reporting system which allows users to submit and fix gripes in a real-time environment following MIL standards. An S1000D data module code sent with the report acts as a bookmark recording the exact location of the user within the IETM. Once the deficiency has been fixed using the content administration tool the IETM is automatically updated and the tech data manager updates the status of the original TPDR (Tech Pub Deficiency Report).
